Making Tax Digital (MTD)
What is MTD?
MTD is HMRC’s new way of doing tax.
It’s HMRC’s plan to move all tax reporting online.
There are two main parts:
MTD for Self Assessment
Being rolled out soon
If your business meets certain threshholds, you will need to:
Keep all income and expenses digitally
Submit quarterly updates to HMRC
Submit an End of Period Statement at the end of the year
Finalise an annual declaration (similar to a tax return)
MTD for VAT
Already in place.
If your business is VAT-registered, you must:
Keep digital VAT records
Use MTD-compatible software
Submit quarterly returns via that software
Maintain a digital audit trail
This is where most people will need help.
It’s a big change.
We’ve planned ahead for MTD. We’ve already set up the software, systems and workflows you’ll need, and we understand the practical changes that HMRC is rolling out. We’ll get you MTD-ready, keep your records digital, file the quarterly updates, and handle year-end finalisation — so you can feel at ease and focus on running the business. We offer several ways of working and we’ll tailor the approach to your needs.
